Anthony Askew consciously explores social activities, cultural events and habits by choosing to subjectively look at the icons and images affiliated with them. His deliberate and conscious uses of mediums and media are often running off on tangential explorations into the nature of the image. In this way, mediums play an integral part in the interpretation of the whole piece of work. One is aware of the medium and its materiality. The subject is represented and it is to be taken for granted that they are not a simulation. The paranoid projection of a figure, shaped by the clouds, in the sky is in this same way a collaboration of medium, material and symbology.
Often working with mixed media, Askew's core content has culminated as films, installations, sound-artworks, paintings, and sculpture. Personalised art theories, sociology and philosophy, play a significant role in shaping of the artist's thinking and consequently influence the way that Askew's work has developed.
