The Model re-opens May Day with the vibrant exhibition "Dorm." Twenty-two international artist collectives will transform the building into an unprecedented, all-encompassing art project. With a nod to the political events of May 1968, histories of art collectivism, and as a parody of an art fair, the building will be filled with exhibitions, concerts, screenings and performances all aimed at the social imagination.

The Model's recent redevelopment has produced a marvellous and culturally iconic building to be shared with the nation. The Saturday opening night of Dorm will include a Public Sleepover Project (PSP) where people can register to spend the night within The Model. As an inventive partnership with the Sligo Institute of Technology, guests will bed down on innovative sleeping apparatuses designed by design students.

The PSP will include a special project from Thierry Geoffrey/Colonel and a musical performance from Pallas Contemporary Projects.

Before the PSP, artist and radio DJ Donal Dineen (Today FM) will stage live performances from musicians of the Box Social in Dublin. Projections provide for a multi-sensory performance, involving musicians from Catscars, Hunter/Gatherer, School Tour and including Patrick Kelleher, who made waves in 2009 with his album You Look Cold.

As for the exhibition that runs until July 4th, the artist collectives present projects in the gallery including installations referencing pagan traditions; projects involving political activism; a collaborative photo and performance project with the local military; complex video projections; participatory projects that involve the public, local government and cats; sculpture that confronts audiences with international issues; collaborations between Irish and Northern Irish artists; and elaborate, playful constructions in the gallery that invite the viewer within.

The Sunday following the opening will include screenings and talks by artist collectives as part of a free public forum on art and collectivity.
