Competition Brief
First declared on June 29, 2007 on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design, World Industrial Design
Day has been established to mark the development and evolution of industrial design throughout the course of its history.
To celebrate World Industrial Design Day 2010, design students from Icsid Member Schools are put to the challenge to design a poster that illustrates the
importance industrial design has in helping humanity. The poster can be a creative illustration or an illustration of the design of a product that captures this
yearʼs theme "Industrial Design: Humane solutions for a resilient world".
Theme overview
Industrial design permeates every part of our lives. It has made the cars we drive more comfortable, electronics more seductive and streamlined and has made cooking fast and easy. Although convenience and appeal has taken the forefront in modern society, it is a different outcome of industrial design that has satisfied humanʼs most essential need, our need for safety, efficiency and resilience in the world around us.
This June 29th on World Industrial Design Day we celebrate not only the elements of design we see and admire everyday, but the hidden elements that help our world withstand disaster and assist those in need. Our ability to build a resilient, safe and controllable environment to benefit all of humanity for the future depends on the innovations we make today; the only limit is our creativity.
