In 2007 some artists of LE GUN discovered a briefcase believed to have belonged to the late jazz pirate and trout tickler George Melly. The contents of the case were as follows :
• one eye patch (black)
• one packet of prophylactics (use by date 2/26/59)
• one hand drawn map
• one note book (filled with sketches and notes relating to the map)
• one black and white photograph of a masked man in a room full of artefacts (inscribed on the back 'Belgium 1959')
• one LP of Marvin Gayes greatest hits one plastic packet containing numerous coloured pills
The items in the case revealed a narrative based around a room which Le Gun attempt to reconstruct into three-dimensional reality. The Unknown Room is a collection of intrinsically linked and inseparable elements. Individual pieces of work that compliment, and validate each other, giving each other life, history and a future. Visitors can delve into the realm of this peculiar history.
Artists in the show: Chris Bianchi, Bill Bragg, Neal Fox, Steph von Reiswitz, Robert Rubbish
About LE GUN:
LE GUN was founded in 2004 by a group of MA graduates from the Communication Art and Design course at the Royal College ofArt, London. The group was brought together by their niche taste in art such as for Raw Magazine that was published in the 1980's by Art Spiegelman in New York. Soon LE GUN published their own self-titled magazine. LE GUN is an independent narrative illustration publication and provides a common ground for both emerging and established artists, illustrators, writers and poets.
