A selection of the projects produced during the workshops within the scope of the “City and Art” Project (www.cityandartproject.net) will be exhibited in Istanbul Tophane-i Amire Culture Center between 15th October - 25th November 2009. At the opening of the exhibition performances will take place.

Main activities of the “City and Art” project include the Forum “City and Art” and publication of a book containing its outcomes; exchange of tutors, student workshops and exhibitions in all partner universities; production of artworks and final exhibition in Istanbul; production of a social network and a virtual magazine; Artacademia.net; production of a film documenting the process of the entire project.

The forum “City and Art” (www.cityandart.org) which took place between 6-8 March 2009 in Istanbul, Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University brought together European art and design academia with cities' cultural actors in order to question the present and future role of the art universities in relation with the cities in which they are located and in relation with their citizens. It also included a work session organized in cooperation with ELIA European League of Institutes of the Arts - which is an associate partner of the project - concerning the latest issues related with networking and cooperation between European universities.

Following the Forum, a series of art workshops took place in Istanbul, Mersin, Malmö, London and Vienna. The art workshops were led by the teachers of the partner universities on the themes which are related to the subject "City and Art". The outcomes of the workshops were shown in local exhibitions.

Chosen art projects or/and artworks are produced for the final exhibition which will take place in Istanbul between 15th October – 25th November 2009.

The aim of the “City and Art” project (www.cityandartproject.net) is to create communication platforms among the art universities of the EU and Turkey for networking and to foster sustainable cooperations, exchange of information, sharing knowledge and good practices.

“City and Art” Project is carried out within the scope of the EU Programme “Promotion of Civil Dialogue Between EU and Turkey”.
