Within the context of the project "Pina Bausch's Istanbul" which is hosted by Istanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture Theatre and Performing Arts Directorate and realized in cooperation with the Istanbul Foundation for Art and Culture-Istanbul Theatre Festival; the project "Nefes" -that constitutes a leg to the project "Cities and People" created by one of world's most renown choreographers Pina Bausch with inspiration of Istanbul, and also staged in or country just before her demise- as a co-production of Tanz Theatre Wuppertal Pina Bausch and IFCA–International Theatre Festival- will be staged again in Istanbul on the occasion that Istanbul's being the European Capital of Culture in 2010.

The contemporary dance performance “Nefes” was choreographed by Pina Bausch based on a three-week stay in Istanbul, Turkey in 2002 at the invitation of The International Istanbul Theatre Festival and the Istanbul Foundation of Culture and Arts. It premiered in Wuppertal, Germany, 2003 and was performed in France, Spain and United States as well.

Although it was an expression of appreciation to Istanbul by Bausch, the art had said “Nefes is not just a dance about Istanbul. It is about us who live this moment. That's what we want to express through the dance”… This elegant show is further enriched by the musical works by famous musicians such as Mercan Dede, Burhan Öçal’a, Suren Asaduryan and Tom Waits in order to expose the feminine, fragile, free, mystical and modern aspects of Istanbul.
