In order to be an ‘alternative’, should we present the new and different and point out the absence or show the non-existing parts in a matter?
The statement of bringing out the ‘alternative’ defines itself in the awareness of the environment you are in. Constitutions which positioning itself according the governmental western art policies, should not be described as an ‘alternative’. The necessary act of these constitutions is to be able to establish and fallow their own independent and original policy. Because the contemporary art itself contains the antagonism in it, the opposite policies of today’s art communities does not bring out the alternative; it reflects what is called ‘contemporary ‘. In this matter, assuming that we , as an artist collective, possess contemporary approach, does not bring us the qualification to be an alternative. Consequently our claim of being an ‘alternative’ will be just about bringing some variety. ‘To be different is what matters’ is no need and no use for a collective like us. Providing the diversity is the natural consequence of the artistic act. Restraining our methods, tools and statements in order to be different in artistic community, results in restraining our acts.
As a result of some problems in the contemporary art presentation in Turkey, we positioned ourselves between art collectives. Our criticism is not against the acts of contemporary acts but in the festive approach of the government and the influence of the corporations to artistic acts with using the tool of sponsorship. This situation pushed the constitutions and the artists into being ‘demanding’. Artists came to a position where they are expecting financial aid from the government and the sponsors. It is right to define our existence as not demanding and waiting but as acting and presenting constantly.
