Arteast is alternative to what?

42 artist initiatives from different countries participate to the 1st International Artist Initiatives İstanbul Meeting. "Arteast" is one of these. Below you will find the answers given by "Arteast" to our questions regarding the ocassion.



Motivation: Our group is one of the new initiatives of young contemporary artists, as the group has formed we need in the further development and intercommunication with the initiatives and artists that are abroad in order to develop and exchange experience, views, cultural exchange. Participation in the 1-st international artist initiatives will be a chance to talk with the artist about contemporary art for today, its perspectives, talk what happens in Central Asia, make presentation, find new partners and friends.

When: 2008

Where: Kyrgyzstan (for now, as beginning).. we use public spaces in the city, underground spaces,
museums

What: Contemporary art (video, installations, photography, performances, actions, other)

Who: We got the idea that takes all of us and actual in present, then we start to brainstorm, develop ideas, share them and make more clear and starting to form it. Then goes fundraising, and managerial part (planning, PR, other). At the end we realize the project.

Why: It's a part of our life. We are encourages, we want to develop in this sphere, create and impact something valuabe in our society. Contemporary art in Central Asia is on the developing stage and there should be done a big work in order to develop it, and it is very interesting being a part of it.

Context: :) i think there is no such initiatives right now, some young artists start to work in this sphere, but there is no full understanding and experience, as well as education - that is very important. Our initiative was based on the ArtEast (www.arteast.ktnet.kg) pilot project where our group of young artists learned about contemporary art, and tried ourself participating in few local exhebitions and some international (Moskow, Amsterdam).

Ambition: We would develop such initiatives in other in order to create competitive sphere for development. we would support radical beginnings, alternative minds and new views on art, world.
